François Bayrou cherche 44 milliards d’économies pour éviter à la France un scénario « à la grecque »

July 15, 2025, Paris, Potenza, FRA: French Prime Minister FRANÇOIS BAYROU presents the main lines of the 2026 budget during a press conference, outlining a plan to cut €44 billion in public spending to bring the national deficit down to 2.8% of GDP by 2029. Measures include scrapping a public holiday, reforming unemployment insurance, replacing the retirees’ tax allowance with a fixed deduction, and imposing spending cuts across all ministries. Bayrou confirmed that 2026 would be a ''zero-growth'' year for public spending, meaning no increase in social benefits despite inflation. Defense remains the exception, with President EMMANUEL MACRON announcing €3.5 billion in additional spending for 2026 and €3 billion more for 2027. (Credit Image: © Stefano Lorusso/ZUMA Press Wire)
